Just a few commentaries on the Toyo Proxes T1Rs and suspension upgrades...
I have been driving my friend's 2002 A4 (my ex car) for a week now. We installed new Toyo Proxes T1Rs on it last Tuesday and I've been breaking them in for about 250 miles now. I've encountered heavy rain and dry roads during this process. Because they are new and have a full tread, they seemed more than adequate so far in the rain although I did not push the car in these conditions. However I am not too impressed so far by their dry weather handling characteristics. For one I find them too soft and two, every time you push them to the limit they scream a lot at a point where I would think they should still be gripping the road without putting up a fuss. Perhaps it is unfair to compare the T1Rs to the PS2s or the RE-01Rs but they are light years behind these two tires in pure performance.
Now the car is modified with some of my ex mods. We installed a set of PSS9s, bigger brakes and a B6 S4 rear sway bar. As much as I liked the PSS9s prior to switching over to the STaSIS/Ohlin Motorsport kit, now I realize how much better the STaSIS kit is and I'm not talking about track usage here but normal street use. On the track it's another ball game all together!
Considering the PSS9s run on springs in the +500 ft/lb range (front and rear) and that my STaSIS kit runs on 700 ft/lb in the front and 1200s in the rear, the car feels more comfortable and definitely reacts better on the road with the suspension handling the bumps in a much more controlled matter. All I can say is that the Ohlins do their magic extremely well. If you are serious about a suspension upgrade and you have the dollars to do it, then I highly recommend the Motorsport kit from STaSIS.
That's all folks.
