Just got the dreaded Min oil light tonight at 1500 mi

Ah yes, the put oil in because I forgot to check it or read the manual light
... that never happened to me on my B6S4.
But, this is a good opportunity to get rid of that factory crap oil. Do yourself a favor, have the oil changed and put in a high quality 5W40 oil.

Re: Last checked at 1000 miles, Level was still in normal range
You're in the last stage of breakin. I suspect that you're taking advantage of the full RPM range now. Your crappy factory oil is shearing to a 25 weight and it's blowing right by the rings. This is nothing new, and nothing to worry about. You can either keep adding oil and checking it at each gas fillup, or you would be well advised to have the oil and filter changed. If you drove the car hard in the first 1000 miles, the rings will finish seating soon. Many of us see our oil consumption drop to zero around 2K+ miles.

I was planning on changing oil and filter at 2K
with Castrol Syntec 5w-40 or Mobil 1 OW-40 after hearing about oil consumption from the rest of the forum. But now I think I will be doing the changed this weekend.

My oil light goes on nearly every 1000-1500 miles.
AOA has sent info to their service departments telling them that the car sucks down the oil. I always carry a spare in the back just in case I am out in the middle of know where. I just did my 5000 mile service and I have filled up 3 times.

If you can find them, the following oils will perform better
Motul E-tech 0W-40
Motul X-cess 5W-40
Elf Excelcium LDX 5W-40
Pennzoil Platinum Euro 5W-40
Pennzoil Platinum Ultra 5W-40
Quaker State Q Euro 5W-40
Chevron/Texaco Havoline Ultra 5W-40
You may find that you have high oil consumption with Mobil 1 0W-40. It starts out as a very low 40W oil and then shears down rapidly. US Castrol Syntec 5W-40, is okay, not great oil.
