Default Just picked up my car!

Looks awesome! Will fix my sig when I get the digital camera back home.

As I was driving home I was at a stop light on one of the highways and had a Z28 Camaro pull up next to me. Decided try it out, punched it and wasted the guy, but wasn't sure if he was really trying. But then I stopped accelerating at about 65 and he eventually came barreling up past me at about 85. Next light he was front car to get on the freeway, the lane over was blocked with a van. So I pulled up behind him. Light turned green, he gave it his all, but after the van was clear I went right around him like he wasnt moving. Was at 85mph in no time, man what a kick *** ride! I slowed to 75 and let him catch up, was gonna wave at him to say thanks for the race, the moron runs past me at like 100mph like he was winning. anyways, i had some fun today!

Not sure what he has under the hood, was new looking, probably a couple years old but in new condition, said Z28 on the side. Could have been a v6 for all I know, that would make me feel bad.

Default Glad to hear you are happy! I'm still amazed there was no body work needed.

Pretty lucky all things considered.

Trim
Z28 Coupe

Engine
5.7L 310 hp V8

Horsepower (@rpm)

No wonder. Amazing a pig engine like that only gets 310hp stock.

Default Amazing it was!

Thanks! Yeah I was totally shocked at how minor it turned out to be, even though it still cost $3600, and I still need to have the rear end clear bra reapplied in a month after full paint cure. All said and done it will cost $3800 to fix. New rims look nice, match the drivers side now!

BTW still need at least one rim to make my winter set. Anyone wanting to part with their slightly scraped or scuffed let me know. Sorry for pestering you all, I have 3 rims now, want to get the 4th and get into the powder coat shop before ski season!

Default Probably the LS1, rated at 305hp/335tq, and as high as 350hp/375tq...

in other applications like the Vette and some Australian Holden models. It's a simple engine, replaced by the LS6 in the GM GenIII V8s (and by an entire different group of GenIV engines.) Very popular aftermarket (it's a GM 350 - they've made millions of 'em)

Not the strongest motor in stock form, but I believe it made Ward's top list at least once in the...late 1990s....probably due to its all-aluminum construction. I think that generation camaro weighs about 3400lbs. 0-60 with a good launch is about 5.2 (with rollout) and high 13s 1/4 mile.

Default know your cars

the last year Camaro was produced was 2002, which is not a couple years old. It was 310hp, SS was 325hp. The car isn't even in the same league as an RS4. I wouldn't be bragging about this one...

you're talking 2002 here. HP rating was in line with most of its competition at the time.

Default Since I never owned or even considered owning

a US made car, I had no idea, I had this image of a 5 or 6 liter engine being alot more powerful, and had a co worker a while back who had a camaro and wouldn't shutup about how fast it was, he took it to the drag strip as well. I serioulsy had no idea. I went on to look at some other american "muscle" cars, was shocked at the mustang as well. The GT is pretty tame, the Shelby with a much larger displacement adn a supercharger is same 1/4mile time as the RS4 adn maybe .1 or .2 faster 0-60, depending on whose RS4 0-60 times you believe. And it is considereably lighter car. Very surprised! I hope to run into a shelby some day to go at it, sounds like a tight race, but I expected more from it before reading.

Default Re: Since I never owned or even considered owning

They didn't get enormous power out of the larger US V8's back in 2002, with the exception of the Vette engines. They didn't need to...again, the competition.

The Shelby GT500 isn't considerably lighter though, but that would be a good contest, I agree.
