snow had fallen after I had gone to bed. Its an 8 mile drive, mostly expressway and it was slippery. The RS4 equipped with M3 tires was outstanding. There wasn't much traffic but their were several SUV's and a few cars that were traveling about 45mph. I could easily drive 70 and probably faster, the car was very stable. This is why for me living in snow country and using the RS4 as a daily driver, RS4> C63 or M3.

70mph on a snow covered road, good luck changing direction.

Default It might be a problem on ice but the snow allowed the tires to grip fairly well, I could change

lanes without any problem at all. This car really rocks in the snow. This was 3am on the expressway with very little traffic.

Default 75% of the traffic does 70+mph in the snow in far, far less qualified vehicles.

Many have bald all-season tires driving one rear wheel, no stability control, no traction control, no ABS, worn out wipers, empty washer solvent, snow-covered brake lights, and fogged/frosted windows thanks to driver incompetency, and have never been to driving school or have done anything to improve their driving skills since high school. Like us, those people also believe everyone else is an idiot, and that they're the best driver on the road.

BTW, my Dunlop M3-equipped RS4 changes direction very well at speed in deep snow, but then I'm one of the best drivers!

Default And that often leads to multi car pile ups. Most drivers in my area don't go above 40mph...

on snow covered highways. I find I can easily go faster with my car on snow tires, but then I remember the laws of physics and keep it at a sane speed.

No matter how good you think your tires are, making an emergency evasive maneuver at those speeds will be a disaster.
That has always been the downside of quattro, the drivers don't realize that at higher speeds in slippery conditions you can lose control that much faster. (even with stability control)

I know that on snow there can be decent traction, but that can be deceiving when you have to avoid something in the road at speed.

Default I have been driving on snow covered roads for over 35 years with no problems. I agree that in

traffic I would never drive that fast, thats why I qualified it as expressway with very light traffic. After I passed the few cars that were on the road I was alone for the last 6 miles on the expressway and thats when I could easily take it up to 70mph. The chance of having to make an evasive maneuver when I was the only one on a straight expressway was pretty small.

It's tough to resist the temptation when on an open highway like that...

Default i flipped my wrx going 60 on a 70 speed limit highway in the snow

while changing lanes, hit some black ice on an otherwise pretty well-plowed road. landed right side up on the other side of the freeway facing the opposite direction. me and my wife walked away from it. funny thing was, right before it happened, i was wondering how i would justify getting rid of it to get an S4, which i didn't have to flip to justify getting an RS4.
