Default License Plate Light Fault

I replaced my rear license plate lights with LED lights I purchased from an aftermarket tuner. They claimed they would work on my 2007 RS4. After installing I got a fault (light bulb symbol) on the dash. Anyone know how to remedy the situation?

Has anyone else with an RS4 switched the factory rear license plate lights to LED's?

Thanks in advance.

I've had the same results. I've come to the conclusion that the only remedy is to add the resistors in line with the wiring. I do not want to cut my wires to do this.

I loved the light output of the LEDs.

Oh there is one other solution. Buy a RS5 when it is released, it will have LED tail lights.

Reggie's right. You'll need anywhere from 30 to 50 Ohms in parallel with the LEDs to add extra current to prevent the fault. Start with higher values until the fault goes away, that way the heat will be less from the resistor. Make sure they are capable of dissipating 5Watts or they will burn out and be a bit of a fire hazard! Don't lay them on any wiring for the same reason.
No intent to make the comments patronizing, to many it will be helpful.
