I had the big guns parked next to my lowly RS ;-) you can just make out my car in the first pick top right. I have some really nice pics of the F1 and the F40 but I can't seem to get them to down load. I will try and post latter. For now here are some very nice pics of the F1 posted by someone else.

No you are not dreaming, the F1 does not use your typical aluminum reflective heat shield but...
Real gold for its reflective heat shield.

Are you kidding?
The Mclaren F1 was designed in the late 1980's. Do you know of any other late 80's cars that still generates such a reaction and discussion? I remember how remarkable that car was when it was first introduced. Nothing was remotely as fast and it was nearly as fast as a liter crotch rocket. A recent article in CAR tested it alongside other greats like the Ferrari F40 and the Bugatti Veyron. It was still an impressively challenging and fun experience. The F1's still a power to weight ratio champ. From what I've heard, there still isn't any car as exquisitely built or detailed; its body panels and seams are perfectly aligned and spaced. True, the brakes are now probably outdated and it doesn't have all the safety features we have now. Another article in CAR about Gordon Murray, the designer of the F1, reveals that except for a few updates (like the brakes), there's nothing he felt could be improved, even today. The car was never built to be the fastest or the quickest accelerating. It was built to a unified and uncomprosing philosophy: minimize weight and add a powerful lag-free motor so you can minimize inertia for ultimate responsiveness. That the F1 was the fastest and quickest accelerating production car for so many years was purely incidental.
It's still a modern and beautiful design. Saying it's dated is like calling classic designs like the Shelby Cobra, Ford GT40, or Porsche 917 dated. 30 years from now collectors will want to pay millions for a Mclaren F1.
