looks like I may be getting new wheels and tires sooner than anticipated...
I was driving home from work last week, and came upon an apparently unfinished road construction project (pothole filling) that was completely unmarked (no signs) with no workers on-site, and I hit what felt like about a 4" deep squared-off divot in the pavement at about 45mph. BA-BAM!!! I immediately noticed a vibration at around 50mph, which lessened somewhat after I rotated the front wheels to the rear...but it's still noticeable. I have a sidewall bubble in 1 tire, but no *noticeable* damage to any of the wheels. I'm hoping it's just the damaged tire causing the vibration, but I'm not optimistic about that. So what's the best way to determine if you have a tweaked wheel....just put in on a balancing machine and see if it wobbles?
BTW, I thought about sending TXDOT the bill for this, but when I went back to photograph the offending area (maybe 2 hours later) it had already been repaired....bastiges!

I'll be happy to send pics of local potholes...
...we sure have enough of them in NJ! I'll even throw in a stuffed armadillo in the background if you think that'd help.
Best bet is to visually inspect the rim during wheel replacement for the tell-tale signs. If all's well, mount & balance to check for the wobblies.
Good luck.

bummer, but definitely still put in a claim with txdot...
At least call them and inisist the offender was a recently repaired hole, and take a picture of that repaired hole. I've had success with receiving payment for a claim here in Illinois without even sending evidence of the pothole but rather just the damaged rim and the receipt of how much I paid for a new one. As soon as I called, they said "oh I know what hole you're talking about". You'd be surprised.

You may be able to get it "repaired"... Bent a rim on my S4 and had it fixed for $75

I tried Wheels America a couple years ago....
...dropped off 2 wheels that were wobbly on the balancer, but had no cosmetic damage whatsoever. They call me back a day later to pick them up...unrepairable. It was just a huge waste of time more than anything else, because the place is a 35-40 minute drive from my house each way.
