how in the world do i help this guy out...
speed limits suck on the highways. I understand the 25 near a school zone etc, but on open highways, screw the speed limit. IMO, they should have one lane that has a very high limit for passing.

no, no
that would be relying much too heavily on the typical unskilled American driver and the typical clap trap crates they drive around.
those areas where a higher sustained speed is feasible is exactly where the plodding(mentally too) bumpkins reside(i.e. rural America).
when in the middle of bliss, a wooden sided tomato hauler pulls out into the highway and takes you out, you'll wish otherwise.

hmmm
i can see raising the limit to a universal 75 max on divided highways, but if anybody is suggesting an Autobahn type system can work here, forget it. American drivers have neither the tradition nor the discipline of the Germans in order to make it work.

I have some reservations....
A lot of times the people speeding are in large SUV's that weigh over 6000 lbs with terrible brakes. The penchant for gigantic cars in the US is reason enough not to have an "Autobahn". Plus the majority of US drivers don't know how to drive.

It will never happen......
Bottom line is that almost all states count on speeding ticket revenue as part of their transportation budget. In Fact, state police are often rewarded for giving out tickets. We all know it has nothing to do with safety.

Well an increase of the limit to the CURRENT speed of traffic (75-85 most areas) IS reasonable since
thats already the speed of traffic anyway. No reason I should be singled out and fined for driving safetly in traffic. If traffic is doing 80-85, its dangerous for me to be driving 55.. Unless I keep my *** in the right lane which most americans cant seem to do.
