In the Market for an RS4

In the Market for an RS4
So it's been 4 years since I parted with my Stage II B5 S4, and I really miss that car a lot. I've been shopping around and looking at picking up an RS4 (Hoping to find a Miguello Blue one somewhere) and was wondering what kind of issues I should be aware of before getting into this car. Also, has Audi discontinued the 4yr / 50k mileage new car warranty? the thought did cross my mind to look at the new S4 but that may be a deal breaker. Any help is greatly appreciated

Carbon, carbon, carbon buildup.....that and a side order of DRC leaks seems to be it. If you get one I suggest making sure both have been addressed properly. Service records are your friend.

It used to be that carbon buildup and DRC failure were of main concern. But many have reported a carbon clean for under $600 including all parts including oil and filter, so no big deal. Also recently, Audi USA has issued a recall for DRC and will replace all four shocks to "Rev. C" and your existing DRC doesn't even have to be leaking.
Looks like picking up a previously-owned RS4 is back in vogue. Used prices seem to have made a turn upward as well which is good news for existing owners.

most used audi S and RS cars have seen an increase in pricing in the last year. Not everyone can afford (or get financing) a new one so they have to settle for something preowned. Playing cards last night with 3 guys who do auction buying for local dealers and they all say that used Audi S/RS cars are in high deemand right now.

go for it...
I've owned the S4 2.7t, the S4 v8, and now the RS4 (with a BMW inbetween).... I just purchased the RS4 in April 2010 CPO'd in Chicago (I live in Boston) and had it shipped via inclosed trailer (InterCity Transport) for $49,200 all in. It had 25k miles and was in really good condition. I was JUST notified this weekend that Audi will replace the DRC at no charge and, I hope to have the car checked for carbon when I bring it in for it's first service next months - I've only put 3500 miles on it so far. THe car is great....I love it. No mod's yet but, next year will change that as I wanted to get to know the car first - and make sure there were no issues..... Good luck!

As always with the car bug, I had been thinking of selling. I looked at same year M5s, and came away with the feeling that there really is NO car that does what the RS4 does. Possibly one of the last great manual tranny cars.
The "what I would take to sell it" cost went up for sure.

Make sure the RS4 you buy does not need new brakes (pads or rotors), or if it does factor this into you purchase price-they are very expensive items. I am also am looking to sell my 2007 avus silver/black RS4 w/45k miles. Shoot me a PM if interested.
