Default More Calabogie. This time in traffic and following my...

Friend's race prepped BMW M Coupe. Unfortunately Photobucket only allows 10 minutes of air time so I'll have to make another short clip with the rest of this video later (about 4 to 5 minutes).

The original plan was for us to switch places, him ahead for 4 or 5 laps so I could check out his lines and then switch. I guess he forgot so I followed him for a while until I got enough of his noisy car... LOL.

The track as very strict noise standards. On the days we were there they allowed only 95 DBA (with some room). A lot of cars did not pass the test and had to modify their exhaust systems. They measure from 15' ahead of the car and 15' in back of the car. So the "Ricer Boys" with their noisy sewing machines were in big trouble with the front check and the ones with noisy tail ends were also in trouble. They ask you to "REV" your motor to 2/3 of its max RPM for the test. My friend did not know this and revved it to between 5000 and 5500 RPM immediately flunking the test. They got a reading of 105 DBA and that's not even WOT under load, imagine that! Anyway they had banned him and was going to leave to go back home with a ruined weekend. Then we suggested to him to go back and not rev his engine so high. The second test done at 3500 RPM (LOL) allowed him to be passed at 100.5 DBA! Lucky bastage I say.

He tried several different lines in different corners, some were better for him some not. In particular wait until you see "Temptation" a turn that is very tricky. It can sucker you into making errors. It is a continuously decreasing radius turn. He tried the double apex or "sling shot" approach twice. But as you will see I could have just have passed him so easily. I had to be cautious because not only was I trying to drive my line but I was paying attention to his line and what he was doing (I did not want a fender bender).

Slicing through the traffic was also fun but without a "pass by" it was a no, no. There were only 4 passing spots permitted for the Advance/Solo group. Sometimes a lot of momentum was lost before you got the "pass by" pointer from the car ahead.

It was still fun and hope to go back there soon. Before the video clip here is a plan of the track and you can see the "sucker hole of "Temptation".
