My dealer used Mobil 1, strange?
I thought Audi always used Castrol. It could be because they are also a Porsche service center, and porsche only uses Mobil 1.
I thought I remember seeing something that people thought Mobil 1 didn't work well in our engine. Whats the general consensus?
thanks

There are many posts within the past 6 months on engine oil. My dealer also uses Mobil1.
I only have 4500 miles with an oil and filter change at about 2900 miles. For those who drive 1000+ miles/month and/or track their cars and/or plan to keep their cars beyond a couple of years there may be better choices than either Castrol or Mobil.

I'm not going to say anything conclusive (yet) about Mobil 1
We have one oil sample on a car that has 17K miles on it, and it doesn't compare well to other oil samples on engines with similar mileage. I'd like to see one or two more M1 samples before I make a definitive statement, and say that the oil is pure crap in this engine.
Care to have Terry Dyson analyze a sample in 3K miles, and see what his recommendations are?

my dealer uses Mobil 1 but i don't use my dealer...
what's so strange? it would be strange if every Audi dealer used Castrol. possibly you've been listening too much to some people on the A4 and S4 boards.

you'd need a lot more than even 3, Scott
this is an issue which has not been satisfactorally addressed yet(i.e. drawing conclusions on a couple tests). any conclusions, either way, won't fly.

Audi uses castrol for a lot of factory fills but dealerships can use any vw502 oil they want...
for example, here in KY, we have Ashland Oil manufacturing facilities (aka Valvoline) so our dealership uses that as well as many specialty blends on local racing teams are tried here locally. Interestingly there are some neat oil studies done over at Ashland and with their sponsored teams that come through.
