Default Need question answered.

When driving at highway speeds, 60-80 mph in 6th gear, dropping from 6th to 4th or 3rd to pass someone I notice a very slight heistation. Has anyone else noticed this, or can someone else try to duplicate it? Dealer tells me its normal, but when pulling out to pass someone and a semi is coming toward you, it's not a very reassuring feeling.

Default Yes, and I have.....

taken it to the service dept. They could not duplicate it.

It does it every day when I drive it. Most often when colder, ie before the 7000 RPM message goes away but can happen when at temperature. It occurs between 2-3000 RPM, mostly when at speed (50-60 MPH) and not under significant acceleration or deceleration. It appears most when passing through 2200-2400 RPM. I have had the recent ECM update, tried ESP on/off and S mode on/off. Does it under all situations.

After going through all of this, a test drive with the servie tech and having it occur, they could not duplicate it when I was not there. Very irritating.

BTW..I use the correct gas (not that it whould really matter---marketing) as it happens that I use the Shell station near my home. They will bring this up when you go in.

At any rate, no solution at this time. I am sure there are a number of other people who have this problem as well.

Car is stll great and other then this I have no complaints.

Default I just love it when the dealer claims unusual behavior is "normal"

Maybe they should just say "we don't know" or "we don't feel like bothering with that issue." Most service departments have probably had about half a dozen RS4's through for their first or second service appointments. I can't imagine they have an adequate baseline to call it normal.

Default could it just be a flat spot in the power curve? not exactly uncommon.

especially at those rpm's, 2000-3000.

Default Yes, if ESP detects any wheel slipage, it cuts spark to the engine momentarily

That is exactly what happens when upshifting quickly under high power.

Default There is no flat-spot in the RS4 power curve at that RPM range

In fact, there is no flat-spot or dip in the curve anywhere.

I'd turn ESP off and see if it occurs. If it still occurs, the the problem may be similar to what some people have described as stuttering or hesitation in the 2K to 3K power band with smooth application of the throttle at low speeds.

Default Turn off ESP and try it.

If you're aggressive enough in downshifting from 6th to 4th or 3rd, you might be inducing enough wheel slip to cause ESP to cut spark for a moment.
