well, the buzzing from the power steering was fixed easily at 1500 miles but then when it came again at 2k they checked it out and said that the rack and pinion was leaking...cars been outa commission since friday...this whole process is pretty slow and im a bit upset that they didnt really do much to speed it up

Likely a bum part; not a long-term worry, but you said 1500 is
....when you got the buzzing fixed.
Was this a fluid-low problem, or something else ?
A low fluid sound would like to be fixed promptly; see where I'm going with this ?
What's the further analysis ?

sorry..i left out some info....
at 1500 the fluid was checked and it was low so they filled it...
then at 2k it was making noise again...dont really know if the fluid was low this time because i cant seem to get the tech on the phone...but the service operator said that the pinion was leaking...can pinions even leak or was it just a faulty hose..they claim they need to give the wheels an alignment after the job so it has to be something directly related to the steering assembly
im assuming it was more than just a hose cause they didnt even mention replacing that
basically they havnt been all that informative but im being patient and im assuming ill get a lot more info when i pick up the car

My daughter's B5 had to have the rack replaced for a bad seal. Wonder if it is the same problem.
She kept having to replace power steering fluid up to the point this was done. No problems since. I'll bet this will cure your troubles also.

A steering rack on a 1.8T/2.0T is a breeze, 3.0 sucks, I heard S4 is torture....
So yours probably is pretty time consuming, and yes you need an alignment after replacing the steering rack.
