is collecting dust behind its veneer. Is it possible to remove w/o damaging the fit and finish? Probably a question for a fellow clean-freak like Vijay. . .

Default The dash cluster is...

...one self-contained unit. Similar to the headlight assemblies, but not sealed. That said, you might be able to remove the protective cover, but there doesn't look like an easy way to do this w/out popping out the cluster first...which isn't really terribly difficult. (remove a couple screws, then push from behind...accessed via fuse panel side cover...to pop out). There are 3 plastic retainer clips that hold the electronics module in place w/ the protective cover & frame assembly. Never tried it, but you may be able to get to the inside lense this way.

You really shouldn't have any dust (or whatever)in your cluster. The only openings are the rear slats that ensure that some ventilation is provided to offset any heat from the electronics.

Of course, for a mere $850.26 you can buy an entire new cluster.

I had the exact same problem, took it into the dealer and they replaced it free. No more dust...

also deliberately not sealed so that moisture isn't trapped in there.

live with the tiny amount of dust, it's not atypical.

Default Since you asked......

It should be possible to remove the instrument cluster and separate the clear plastic "cover" section from the actual gauges to clean it. When I had my B5 S4, I switched out the gauge "cover" piece from an A6 4.2 since that had polished silver rings surrounding the gauges while the S4 did not.
