Similar thing happened to one of my partners
He threatened legal action and ended up with a new Mercedes S65 for $122K. Dealer claimed they thought they were listing a S55. Still a good deal nonetheless. It was the previous body style when the new ones were arriving.

If the dealer didn't want to roll the dice, they should not have placed the car up for auction - or
pulled the auction/set reserve when things didn't look like it was going their way.
I'm sure the bidder can get ebay to pull the dealer account, and the auction did state the dealer could end the auction any time for any reason, but since they let the auction go to the end, IMHO they should have stuck to their word. This bad PR is going to cost them far more than they could have made off one car.
