oil additions
has anyone had to add a quart of oil during the first 1k miles? I am sure there has been a post but I wanted to see if anyone got a good explanation from their dealer. I had the car checked out and no leaks, so I am blaming it on a tight engine and oil burn. Any other ideas?

It's quite normal
Max,
Most owners have seen anywhere from 1/2 Qt to 3 Quarts in the first several thousand miles. Some of us even find that the oil was low on delivey. I suspect that many, like me, didn't bother to check the level immediately.
If you read through the postings, you'll find that:
1) This engine is extremely loose during break-in and goes through quite a bit of oil.
2) Checking the oil every fillup is a good thing, if nothing else for piece of mind.
3) Many of us are breaking in our engines hard in 2nd and 3rd gear with rapid acceleration and deceleration. Followed by some varied highway driving. This helps the rings to wear-in quickly.
4) The factory oil is extremely thin. Change it out after you've done some break-in runs. Some change very early (<500 miles), and some change around the end of the breakin period (1500 miles). But I, and many others, think it's a good idea to get fresh oil into the engine early. Generally, whatever you use will probably be thicker than what is in the engine on delivery, and will help consumption.
5) Audi says that 1 Qt/1000 miles is normal.
6) Many of us see oil consumption start going down after about 2K miles.
Change the oil. Check it perodically. Have fun with your new car!!!
