Oil change question and thoughts

So I picked up a very clean 2008 RS4 Cab with 60K miles. I have yet to do an oil change, but here is my thinking:

Change the oil every 3.3k miles, using the suction tool I used on my boat.

Have the car serviced, including an oil AND filter change every 10k.

Any reason that this does not make sense? Seems that the dealer service was to be done every 10k miles, and that is when the oil filter would be changed. The big issue with oil seems to be that it degrades enough to change every 3k miles or so. I have yet to change the oil and filter, but I understand it is a bit of a pain in the ass, like my B6 A4 1.8t Avant, having to pull of the belly pan and an oil filter that is not easy to get to.

Shoot holes in this, it will not hurt my feelings. Thanks!!

I appreciate your concern for the motor...

... modern synthetic oils are incredibly stable. I go 5K intervals on my RS5, S4, A6, etc and let AudiCare do the tens. The key for me is the analysis.

After each change, I send a sample to Blackstone Labs and they give me a complete rundown and are on the alert for signs of trouble... Here is their URL

Blackstone Labs

Order the kits and they send you the packs. You pay only when you send it in... ($25/each sample). I have affixed one of my recent reports...

In addition, I do all my oil changes via the extractor method. It works fine. I purchase my filters in a six pack from ECS Tuning.

Good luck, the RS4 is iconic and a real hoot. Their are some aftermarket exhausts for that car that make it sound otherworldly...

Not sure when Audi removed or modified the oil pan baffling, but my 2007's oil pan is heavily baffled, making an extractor unuseable. The RS4 is prone to fuel contamination in the oil and carbon buildup. Certain oils are better than others in those respects.

Thanks Eric for the info. Thanks Elevens for info about the baffles. I will check that out.

Appreciate the thoughts and help.

I still like to get under the car when I do the oil changes and remove the belly pan and look around for any possible issues. Not a fan of extraction method

Agreed!

In general, I love to get under the car and look around as well. I figured that using an extractor often would keep the oil fresh and clean, and then the car would get a good look, an oil filter and required servie every 10k miles.

good plan, but changing oil at 3300 miles is not really needed. do it at 5000 miles instead, with full service at 10k. cab color?
