Default oil consumption...

bought a 2007 rs4 imola yellow with 6000 miles. had the car for three weeks only put 500 miles on it. dealer said they did the oil change at 5500 miles .i checked the oil level after 500 miles had to add 2 and a half quarts of oil.is there something wrong with the car? and is that very unusual for adding 2 quarts?
i think they lied was not done.

after 500 miles if the oil still looked amber and not dark, then the oil change was probably done, like they claimed. having to add 2+ qts could be due to the dealer underfilling oil at time of oil change, something others here have mentioned happening.

keep an eye on the level, check twice a month or so. best to check warm on level ground after sitting with engine off for 15 minutes or more. hope this helps.

Default 1q/500 miles would be a reasonable starting point for this engine. Half that would be better.

Hammer it for a while to seat the rings and keep the level full w/15w-40, then see what happens. Reset the trip odo and check the level carefully after sitting to ascertain the consumption, then you can use a predictive method to add next time. Normal cars I like to top off at 1/2 quart low, but you can got to 1q, not beyond. Be shure you get a full change at 5000 miles, no less.

If you want to reduce the consumption further or just better mpg and smooth operation, add some 2-cycle oil to the fuel, 500:1 is 3oz to 10 gallons of fuel. Double that for the first dose to coat the fuel parts. It protects them from corrosion by the dry 10% ethanol fuel. 2-cycle oil acts like top oil such as that slop from Lucas, "Upper Cylinder Lube", but 2C oil actually contains additives, stabilizers and high grade base oil. It work well, trust me.

service advisor should be able to tell you for sure...just have them look up your car in the system.

Default you're welcome...

it's pretty basic, we all go thru it(using some unexpectedly, having to monitor it for awhile). my guess is they probably didn't have it totally full after the oil change at Audi.
