Default ? for the Oil Guru's over here.

I have a 2007 2.0T MT6 with the following upgrades K04 turbo, Carbonio AI, Full exhaust with test pipe and chip (APR). I changed out the factory fill at 1800 miles and it now has 4K. I put Syntec 5W-40 in it. I am now thinking of switching, probably to Motul or ELF? I have been reading your Oil threads with much interest. What is it about Castrol, that is the big negative? Thanks!

Default Castrol seems to hold up the worse with the RS4 FSI engine

But, the 2.0TFSI is a different engine. If you're going to keep it for a while, you should send the oil out for analysis and interepretation, and see how it works in your engine. Your's is a different best than the RS4 engine and may do different things to oil. Send a sample out to Terry Dyson for analysis

If you're interested in another oil, you might try Pennzoil Platinum Euro 5W-40, which is 502 approved and is supposed to be good oil. However, I do not have personal experience. Some here are going to try it and do an analysis, but there's no data on it yet. If you keep your oil change interval (OCI) to 3 to 3.5K max for now, and have an oil analysis done, you'll be safe, and you can determine how long you can go before a change.

You can search recent oil threads here for a website where you can purchase Pennzoil platinum euro, and also for Terry Dysons oil analysis service, along with sample extraction pumps.

Default Thanks for the input..

I am planning on doing a UOA. I see that you recomend Dyson over Blackstone. My current thinking is that I may go up a notch in quality (perceived?) and put in some ELF or Motul. I can find ELF for around $7/liter which is not too bad. I have been researching this like crazy. The world of motor oil is a crazy and baffling one.

Default What's the real significance of Pennzoil Platinum?...

if it's really a Shell oil, marketed under the Pennzoil name, which sells better here(name wise) then Shell lubricants?

Default See above response to Dave

Motul 0W-40 is good, but not for $10/L. Elf at $7 is a better buy, but it's not that impressive. It's a nice GroupIII/IV blend and performs better than Castrol, but not as well as a good PAO like Amsoil. Platinum Euro is imported and is supposed to be similar to Shell Helix.

I didn't know Elf was a synthetic-dino blend. Afraid that's all we're gonna be left with soon.

Default Some Group III+ oils are much better these days.

Even some Group II oils ain't bad. Consider the Rotella T. You won't get the life of a full synthetic, but the cost will make up for short OCIs.

Maybe, but I don't like the idea that true PAO based synthetics are disappearing.
