Default Oil question for RI RS4

Scott, what do you make of Mobil 1 "Extended Life" synthetic? It's sold alongside reg Mobil 1. I don't see the point...if they have a better formulation, why not just go with it. why both? same product rebottled, marketing ploy? another possibility is that it has an awful lot of detergents, weakening the base stock.

your thoughts...or first hand knowledge?

Default I don't know

I've got no information on M1 Extended Life. I expect it just has more detergent additives, but who knows. It might be Delvac repackaged. Have you searched on BITOG?

Default no i haven't

looked into it any further. i'm a little wary of using it, and would use reg Mobil 1 before trying the extended version, without knowing exactly what the difference between the two is.

Default You might try Pennzoil Platinum

UOA results are consistently good on a variety of engines, and Terry was involved in the testing for Pennzoil.

Default i was a Pennzoil fan years ago

but got away from them after they went the cheapo route on their oils.

Shell owning them doesn't exactly add to my confidence level. but, the Platinum may be a good one, as you say.

one thing i hate in oils is gimickry..."adaptive molecules" that supposedly break apart, change shape, and then reform, give me a break.

Default What's a good source for this oil? You posted a link a while back, but...

it shows as "Pennzoil Synthetic European Formulation."

Doesn't mention platinum.

Is this just mis-marked on the website?
