bit high but I was pushing the car hard. Anyone else ever see temps that high?

Nope. Highest I've seen is 250... what oil are you using?

That's high, but in reason. I'd start letting the car off once it was over 280F.

Why 280F? At what temp does the oil break down or start to fail?

Default really isn't THAT bad

B5 S4 guys are seening 250+F on the street in there cars with the stock coolers.

Default usually castrol, which (along with Mobil 1, among others) hasnt held up that well in RI RS4's oil

tests, how long has it been since your last oil change?

From what I've noticed with using the Mobil 1 is that average oil temps continue to trend higher with time from when the oil was changed & the number of miles on there.

Default Based on what I've gathered from engine companies and race teams...

this is assuming a quality synthetic. The oil isn't going to start to "break down" until 300+.

I'm not an oil expert, perhaps Scott can shed some light on the subject. :-)

Anyway, BMW's 335i doesn't start taking actions to reduce oil temperature until after 300F has been reached.

I am on a 2.5K, 2.5k and will now stick with a 5K change at 11K.
