Default Optima battery.. Pros and cons anyone?

Haven't really been able to get the whole story on the optima battery, anyone have one of these?

Seems like someone told me it was 35lbs lighter and needs some kit to install, sound about right? Any other details?

Default I put one in my A4 - see link - but not sure about RS and what would be required.

We still have way too much weight up front - not the rear.<ul><li><a href="https://www.audiworld.com/tech/elec167.shtml">A4 Red Top install</a></li></ul>

Default You actually want to increase weight in rear and decrease in front......

hence the rear location of the battery to begin with. A 35lb overall weight loss is always nice, but not from this location. I actually added 48lbs to my trunk by adding a subwoofer, box, and amp. Car didn't feel one bit slower, however, it really does feel more poised through corners.

Who'd have ever thought that a sub would be a handling mod!!!

Default I think you're referring to the Odyssey PC680...ask over in the B6 S4 forum.

JetJockey knows something about this battery also, so maybe he'll chime in.

the consensus seems to be that you should definitely invest in a battery charger if you get the PC680 (the one that is 35lbs lighter), because the cranking amps are SIGNIFICANTLY less than the OEM battery. Odyssey does make another battery with more cranking amps, but obviously it's heavier (though I think it's still about 11 lbs lighter than OEM).

I don't know if Optima makes anything comparable to the Odyssey.

c'mon..you're not going to feel a 0.88% shift in weight distribution any more than 0.88% weight loss

Default I've always said......

Truth is stranger than fiction. While I can't dispute the measly number, I swear that the seat of my pants feeling was that the car didn't understeer as much when pushed. Furthermore, since this was not a handling mod, it's also not something I was trying to convince myself of either. It was a feeling that was immediately apparent the first time I took the car for a hard drive right after installing the sub assembly.

BTW...my compliments for accurately coming up with the 0.88% figure. Not a totally intuitive calculation.
