Default Paging bpesch: Did you post your UOA on Amsoil 5W40?

I'm just curious, not trying to start another flamefest. STFA'd but didn't find anything.

Default Keep in mind that AFL (5w40) has recently undergone another reformulation . . .

The old AFL had a TBN of 12 and HTHS of 4.2 Vis of 14.5.

The new AFL has a TBN of 8, HTHS of 3.7 and Vis of 13.7.

Significantly different and depending on where he purchased it, it is very possible that he might have old stock.

Is there any way to distinguish the old stuff from the new stuff by looking at the bottle?

Default No . . . . what's even worse is that Amsoil is using the old labels for the new stuff.

*smacks forehead*

Technically the new stuff should say something about meeting 505.01 approvals & etc, but as mentioned above, Amsoil is using up their stock of old stickers on the newer bottles.

The only way to ensure that you get the new stuff is to purchase from amsoil directly (since you'll get the freshest stock). I'm interested in the new AFL 5w40 since it seems to be a middle weight between a full 40wt & GC (which is a thick 30 wt).

Yes, I am running it now, purchased directly from AMSOIL, I know they have several reformulations but the details on the lable do change as I have both and the latest lable says 502.00, 505.00, 505.01 it is the 505.01 that the new formulation.

We will see how it holds up, will run an analysis on it when i get 2,500 miles on it and post it here .

I have been using this oil in ny other cars with great sucess.

Okay, thank you. How many more miles have you got to go before you get to 2,500?

Oh great. They need to appoint someone with a Sharpie to scribble in the 505.01.
