Default Paging RIRS4

Have you had any problems with the RE-OR1s? Please see the 'questions on track tires' a few posts back. Thanks

Default Zero problems. RE01-Rs are awesome

Load rating is not an issue, unless you plan to drive on long trips in the summer with 4 adults and luggage. Otherwise the tires are great.

I've even been mildly surprised about how well they work in the cold. They don't seem to take a set, so no thumping at 40F and although they lose a bit of grip and become a bit slick, they are still very safe and predictable.

But ... do expect that whoever mounts these will not like you afterwards. We have Inskip service in RI trained. They cringe when any of us ask about mounting these beasts. Very, very stiff sidewalls.

Default Re: Zero problems. RE01-Rs are awesome

Thanks, I'll probably give them a shot. It does make sense that load concerns would be less with only 1 or 2 people in the car at the track. Most likely I'll keep my P zeros for street tires.

My impression is that the RE01-Rs would be much better that the PS2s (one of only a few other 19" choices.) You did mount them on the OEM wheels, right? I have an event coming up next month and I'll let you know how they do.

Default it's worth noting that size RE01R is 6 lbs heavier than the stock Pzero...EACH.

and 5lbs heavier than the PS2 in stock size, per tire. that may explain the increased steering effort that a couple of people have reported here with the RE01Rs.

Default 2nd RI RS4

I went from the 255 PS2 to the RE-01s. The PS2 are an awesome tire, and the one thing I miss is that on longer drives at speeds of 100+, they are not nearly as smooth. They do however have a much noticed increased grip.

I haven't tracked the car with them on, but plan on doing so in the spring..got a new co worker that is a track freak ferrari boy..

I agree with RI RS4...I just swapped then out for the winters, but on days here even into the 30s, they were surprisingly good....

My only concern is their handling in the wet. THe PS2 were great.

In addition to their bite...they are a mean looking set up in the 275 width!!!In terms of the added totational wt..butt dyno feels no difference......

Default There is still another option that nobody has commented on.....

That is to get PS2's in a 275 width. How much of the increased grip is due to the different compound vs. the increased width is an unknown. The PS2 in 275/30/19 weighs 25lbs. You may be able to have better grip and still have a light tire. I may think about this option when it'stime to replace.

Default Don't get me wrong here; I loved my PS2s but the major drawback of the PS2s is...

That they are asymmetrical in design and for tire wear that is a major PITA. You cannot flip them on a wheel or rotate them inside out to reduce inside or outside wear depending on your alignment.

Yes they are lighter and by consequence reduce unsprung weight (always important), yes they handle great whether dry or wet, yes they are smooth running and offer a decent ride quality but they are expensive.

Don't expect more than 10K to 12K out of them especially if you drive aggressively.

The jury is still out on the longevity of the RE-01Rs and technically they should wear out just as fast if not faster than the PS2s because of their lower UTQG wear rating. The
RE-01Rs sidewall is stiffer than the PS2s and thus offers a crisper/faster turn in but it is also heavier. Because they are a "semi R compound" tire the RE-01R IMHO sticks more and is perhaps a better tire for those who intend to track their cars.
