Default PCC-ACNA Virginia Fall Run picture post

Yesterday the Potomac-Chesapeake Chapter of the ACNA put on their fall Virginia Foliage Fun run through the back roads of western VA and eastern WV. A total of 23 cars showed up, and the $20 registration fee was donated to UVA Parkinson's research. Most of the cars there were B5 S4s, but a couple of C5 A6s, three TTs, a B6 A4, and a B7 25th anniversary edition S4 were among the group. I was the only RS 4. Non-Audis consisted of a Bora-badged Jetta and a 987 Boxster. The cars were divided into three groups, theoretically based on how fast they'd go throughout the day. I was put into the fastest group, led by ACNA driving instructor Reggie Forster in his modified laser red S4 avant. He set a brisk pace, but I was satisfied with how well I kept up. For a time, I was the second car in line, and we put a bit of distance on the rest of the group (although I was working pretty hard). I'm happy I didn't hold anyone up.

Traffic was light for most of the day, although some unfortunate souls did get passed by several screaming cars along some longer passing zones. Most locals seemed amused by all the Audis, but one pair of elderly women walkers gave our group the "slow down" hand motion as we drove past (not excessively fast, either), and these women went so far as to stick a foot out in the road or act like they were going to jump in front of the other groups.

We made a few stops along the 190-mile route, but most of these were just short enough to grab a bathroom break and a stretch, so not many pictures were taken. The roads and driving were great, and the people I talked with seemed friendly as well.

Now, some pics.

On the way down, I noticed that The Honorary Title's name is a bit long for the RNS-E display.

There were nine cars in my group, including two 225 hp TTs, the B7 S4, the Jetta, and the rest were B5 A4s and S4s. Reggie's car is in the front row.

We also stopped at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory in Green Bank, WV, for a stretch. There was a 335 coupe in the parking lot there, but he left shortly after we arrived.

Next stop was in Hot Springs, and en route I was able to get some rolling shots since we caught some traffic.

A quick snack in hot springs, and it was off again.

By this time, we'd done ~140 miles, and the B7 S4 and I were below half a tank of gas. I think everyone else filled up just to make us feel better.

We stopped briefly along the Goshen Pass, and the other groups caught up long enough for some pictures.

Most of us stayed for nice dinner and bull session at the final destination, the Osceola Mill.

I got back at just before midnight last night, and decided I was too tired to run in an autocross I was planning on today. Saturday was a helluva trip, though. Hope i can do it again, with some more RS 4s.

Nice write up! The only reason you and Reggie ran away is because I was stuck behind the green TT :P
