Please help in my decision for a new car!!
RIght now at the top of my list for a new car is a slightly used RS4 or a brand new S5. I am getting rid of a 2004 MB CL55 AMG with 25k miles on it and it is in perfect condition and I am also getting rid of a 2002 Audi S4 stage 3 with 112k miles on it. If I could I would hold on to the CL 55 but I am located in Boston and I can't even imagine how bad it would be in the snow.
I was very disappointed yesterday because I was very interested in buying an 07 RS4 with 14k miles on it for ~$58k and the dealer only offered $35.8k for the CL55, claiming it is in great condition (only noted that it needs a new set of tires) but it is worth a low figure due to the local market (this was at a MB/BMW dealership nonetheless). I honestly thought that they would give me at least $42k for the CL55. Needless to say, that deal did not work out.
So now I think I am going to move onto an S5 and try a different dealership so hopefully I can get a better trade in value. I am going to try to sell the 02 S4 on my own seeing as I would get hardly anything for a trade in on it.
Please respond with any advice concerning getting the most for the 2 cars that I am getting rid of and any recommendations for practical cars to look to buy. Thanks!

I think your problem will be finding an S5
I can't attest for Boston, but in NJ, there don't seem to be many, if any, S5's on the lot for sale. Try selling the CL yourself and go from there

Soft market, good luck getting a better trade.
Dealers have to make money, and the chances of them turning over your car right now is pretty slim. My neighbor is selling his M5. KBB vlue is near to 60k. The same car with less miles is at a local dealer for 52k, and they offered to sell it for 47k with no haggling. Needless to say, his trade in offers were disheartening.
My opinion, get the RS4. The S5 is a great car, but the RS4 is still an RS car, and it comes with all the little improvements. And you will be at similar money, except the used RS will hold it's value much beter than a new S5, which will depreciate like a stone.

The reality is that you almost NEVER get what a used car is "worth"....
according to things like Edmunds, Kelly Blue book, etc. The S5 will not be the same kind of car as the RS4. See if you can negotiate to a point where you can get the RS4 for your CL55 +$20k. That seems about the best you'll realistically be able to do IMO.

The CL is going to be a hard sell. My buddy has been trying to sell his for over a year,
when he picked up his RS6. he now has two payments and still can't get rid of the thing. The CL is not one of the most sought after AMG's. If you want $42 and they are offering $36k, haggle little more and maybe you can meet in the middle.
However, I wouldn't negotiate the CL at the same time that I neotaite a car purchase. Go in to the dealer and only negotaite a car purchase. When they ask if you ave a trade, say no. It's dealer trickery. your best be is to go to another dealer and start over.
