Default Question about my Exhaust outlet

Folks, I have a 2007 RS4 with 4 outlets (2 on each side). I noticed when it was parked that the exhaust on the let had both open, one on the right had on one outlet open. Assuming this is not an issue and will open when I rev it on the highway. Please advise. Thanks

Sounds like aftermarket exhaust. Which one? My factory exhaust valves seized up one time. I freed them with some penetrating fluid. Once they were working again, I cut some anti-seize paste with a light lubricant and injected it onto the butterfly shafts at both bushings. Now I check and lube them once a year (or so).

Its factory exhaust. So are you saying the 4 outlets should be open at all time..I thought there is a sensor that is attached to it - hoping I would get a check engine light if there was a fault.

They open when you hit the green S button in your dash above radio. Hit that button at idle then go look, all 4 should be open.

OK so the default is two open on the left and one open on the right - HIT the S button and ALL open. I will try. Thanks

The default is one open on each side unless the S button is pressed. Also, the valves will open automatically above 5,500 rpm or Wide Open Throttle I think.

OK so you have stock exhaust. You said dual on each side. Since the stock mufflers have a single oval tip on each side, you threw me. But now I think I know what you're talking about.

Either the valve isn't getting vacuum, or the butterfly shaft is seized. It should be a very simple process to eliminate one or the other. At this point,. you will either have to troubleshoot it yourself, or bring it in to a pro.

I just took it out for a spin, used the S switch and no change, it is still closed. Interesting that there is no check engine light.
