Default question about vag-com

If my 08 ever comes in (ETA is now March 24) I'm thinking a vag-com would come in handy and seems like I read one of the things it can do is calculate HP and TQ curves - if this is true how does it accomplish this and are the readings reliable?

Default It's not essetnial but a VAG-COM can come in handy. I've used mine to turn on DRLs, adjust

MPH to Kms, clear cels & fault codes, log and graph: timing pulls, injector duty cycle, MAF reading, IATs, O2 sensor readings, fuel trims and probably a lot more items. Some of these items were more important on the turbo cars but it's still handy on the RS4s.

Yes, torque and HP figures are available from a VAG-COM but they are only calculated values. Block 120 torque & HP results are based the ECUs knowledge of the engine's torque characteristics and so any performance mods don't get caught.

You can also use Group 005 (Butt Duno) which gives you time, speed, and RPM. Using those and vehicle mass is all you need to calc the change in energy over time which is HP.

The MAF reading is related to HP by calculation too. HP x.8 = MAF g/sec

How close is all this to a real dyno? Close but not perfect.

Default Keep in mind the hp and tq readings are only reliable on a non chipped car....

which I suppose most RS4 cars are but just wanted to make sure you were aware. But there are plenty of other things that vag-com can also monitor....

http://www.mjbmotorsport.com/datafaq.html</a

Default When did you order? I ordered 11/17, supposed to be on boat on 2/19 and

at dealer around 3/15. I was gonna get a S5 but wifey insisted on 4 doors !!! sprint blue. curious to see if anyone has swapped S5 led headlights into an RS4.

Also, coming from s4 board, sometimes the tip vs 6 debate would come up. Been driving stick 31 yrs, and a tip ain't stick

I did the same thing with the S5.. ordered one then changed my mind after driving the demo - it was a nice car but didn't feel very quick and really I needed a 4 door anyway.

I ordered around the 3rd week of october so I guess that's about right if they build them in batches. Dealer was just was being way too optimistic when he said Jan.
