Rainy track day today
Had the RS4 at VIR today in some pretty good rain. Ferrari club event, about 50 cars. Normally, my father would drive our Cobra replica, but with the rain and cold he drove the Audi and I mostly drove my Lotus.
Lots of great cars, about 5 430s, a bunch of 360s, an F40, and a mix of others. RS4 was the only AWD car present. It was hands down the best car there. My father's instructor's jaw was on the floor. He just drove the dry line, and pushed everyone out of the way.
The Lotus was good in the rain too, but you have to be really, really smooth (I probably learned more today than in any single track day ever). The RS4 would cover all but the most idiotic mistakes.
The Tubi generated much talk, amazing considering the incredible sounds that flat crank V8's make. Between the wet-weather poise and the fantastic noise, the big blue beast got a lot of chatter.
I have to admit, I have never been more stoked with a car. This is the first time I have been to a Ferrari club track day without a Ferrari (355, 512TR, both gone now). In the past, my car was just another red car from Maranello. Not so today!
Oh, and we stopped for dinner on the way home, parked the Lotus next to the RS4. The manager of the restaurant comes out, looks right over the Lotus, points to the RS4 and says "that is the most beautiful car I have ever seen!" Good eye, mate!

Same result at PIR a couple of weeks ago....
quattro just amazes me in the wet, easily the fastest around the track and even burying the STI's and Evo's that were there that day. Now I will pray for rain on track days!
