Default removal of foam block and aluminum rectagular brace from trunk

Hi,

Have any of you removed the foam block and the aluminum rectangular brace from the trunk where the spare should be? I have been considering doing this to make some room to store silly things like jumper cables and other emergency items. I see some mention of the foam block on the forum but can't find anything about what happens and whether or not it's a bad idea to remove the aluminum rectangular brace.

Default The aluminium brace looks like crash protection for the battery to me

along with being a trunk support for the hole.

Default Consider an Optima Battery

If you go to the following URL it seems to show an RS-4 with an optima battery in the battery cable compartment just in front of the windshield.
I couldn't find the battery listed in the website and don't have time today to call but it is an interesting idea and could free up some rear space.

http://www.optimabatteries.com/home.php</a

Default

But RS4's don't have the battery in the front!

Default Makes me wonder too...

Reminds me of the C4 Corvette convertible where some owners remove the spare tire to save weight - but it's integral to rear-end crash protection.

Default That's not an RS-4 !!

Duh...what was I thinking? In any case the Optima might just fit up front(I'll have to look) but it should surely take up less space in the under-trunk battery compartment.

Default the Optima with appropriate CCA isn't really much smaller than OEM.

I know some people are using the smaller Optima, but they're reportedly very easy to drain.
