Hi,

Have any of you removed the foam block and the aluminum rectangular brace from the trunk where the spare should be? I have been considering doing this to make some room to store silly things like jumper cables and other emergency items. I see some mention of the foam block on the forum but can't find anything about what happens and whether or not it's a bad idea to remove the aluminum rectangular brace.

If you go to the following URL it seems to show an RS-4 with an optima battery in the battery cable compartment just in front of the windshield.
I couldn't find the battery listed in the website and don't have time today to call but it is an interesting idea and could free up some rear space.<ul><li><a href="http://www.optimabatteries.com/home.php">http://www.optimabatteries.com/home.php</a</li></ul>

Reminds me of the C4 Corvette convertible where some owners remove the spare tire to save weight - but it's integral to rear-end crash protection.

Duh...what was I thinking? In any case the Optima might just fit up front(I'll have to look) but it should surely take up less space in the under-trunk battery compartment.

I know some people are using the smaller Optima, but they're reportedly very easy to drain.
