RS4 Lighting Question
<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/24218/headlight.jpg"></center><p>
Is our lighting different than the B7 A4/S4's?
On my car the lighting is as follows (see picture):
1 = bi-xenon
2 = turn signal + US parking light
3 = ??? (never on regardless of VAG settings)
4 = DRL (always on with parking/lows/highs, on alone with DRL's switched on)
Does bulb #3 come on for anyone with a RS4? Is bulb #3 typically referred to as the city light bulb? Does bulb #4 never shut off, unless the lights are off?
TIA. I did STFA, but the answer was far from clear.

If it's the same as my Touareg....
... then bulb #3 is the "Flash to pass" light. With the T-reg, VW didn't want people getting the Xenon highbeam in the rear view mirror when you flash to get people out of your way. There was a way to VAG-COM the T-Reg so the halogen highbeam came on with the Xenon ones; no idea if you could do it in the RS4.
ie: bulb #3 will only come on when you pull the turn signal stalk towards you. Try it against a brick wall and I'm sure you'll see a halogen highbeam come on instead of the xenon.
Conspiracy theory: The bi-xenon changes to highbeam using a moving iris inside the housing. Rapid on-off cycling, such as flashing the highbeams, could shorten the life of the iris, hence the use of a halogen flasher. This is completely my own theory, so don't go worrying yourself to grey hair over it.

#3 is the DRL
look at the little **** (labelled DRL) immediately to the left of the main light switch...push it, and it pops out. switch from '0' to '1', and bulb #3 turns on...but only if the Xenons are OFF.
#4 is the city light, which comes on when the xenons are on.

To avoid confusing anyone, here is the correct info:

2 = turn signal + US parking light
3 = DRL (on if lights off and DRL on)
4 = city lights (on with parking/lows/highs)

yupper. me and a buddy tried using VAG to see if i could have DRLs and Lowbeams at same time...
...apparently there is no way to do this. he wanted to do it on his B7 cuz he got some little blue/white LED to replace the amber-ish DRL bulb.
