From RS4 to R8

After selling my RS4 and placed an order for a R8 nearly a year ago. I finally took delivery of the car 2 weeks ago. Below is my thoughts so far for those who maybe interested in the R8 and has a RS4 now and thinking about getting one.
I was expecting the R8 to be very similiar to the RS4 due to the fact that that have virtually the same engine but I was wrong. The noise, the feel and the driving experience is totally different. The RS4 is alot easier to drive due to its sedan root but the R8 is a sport car. As a start it is harder to see out and it took me a few days to get a feel of where the "corners". The steering is heavier and has more feel. The ride/handling is superb and even better than the high standard of the RS4. I actually think the R8 rides better than the RS4. All in all the R8 is physically and mentally much more demanding and therefore more enjoyable if you love driving. Overall I am pleasantly surprised by the car and can only think of 1 negative. This car draws attention like nothing! So if you are looking for a quiet time then forget it.

I don't live in the US so
fortunately I don't have to put up with these crazy price of asking for a premium over the list price. However, unfortunately I live in a country where car tax is 100% so I paid close to a equivalent of US$185,000 for it. This combining with a gas price of about US$2.2 per litre you can imagine the cost of having a car like this. You guy in the US has no idea how fortunate you are somtimes....:-{

It sure does... driving an RS4 and R8 back ot back is a ton of fun...
... it does wonders in understanding the physics of performance cars apart from the myopic view of numbers (HP, 0-60, weight, etc) the way lots of folks like to look at them (no one on an Audi forum of course
Putting that great engine in the middle of the car is key... even the A5 and new A4 having the engine weight more balanced behind the center line of the front axle does wonders... I hate to say it as I love my RS4, but the S5 felt way better balanced on track than the RS4. Dang physics.
