rs4: seat memory module.....dealership receives an F
issues:
=seat memory module doesn't memorize seat angle
=dvd won't eject from the in-dash nav unit
=factory ECM flash update
-appt: took 2 weeks to get (rs4 tech at training) and car arrived at 8am
-2:30pm: still communicating with audi tech support on the nav issue
-5:00pm: all is done with the exception of the seat memory
conversation with service advisor:
tells me that they had the seat working earlier in the day but that at 5:00 the mechanic said it had reverted back to its faulty ways (hmmm....i've tried the memory setting since purchase without success).....so i asked them why they hadn't tried putting in a new memory seat module....his response? "it doesn't work that way......need to further diagnose and try further programming.....will need the car for another day." OK...what am i missing? so i asked him "how long did you spend on working on getting the disc to eject from the in-dash NAV unit?" his response "four hours....lots of back and forth with audi tech to get it figured out..." i basically told him that it was their lack of knowledge why it took so long....4 hours to unlock a code that should have been done PRIOR to delivery? needless to say i left their an unhappy customer and all he could do was to offer up the mechanic for further questioning and explanations. the seat memory module issue is really what burned me.....CAN'T PUT IN A NEW PART UNTIL FURTHER PROGRAMMING IS DONE? *** that.
ok, i feel a little better now.

at what point
does all that labor exceed the cost of a new memory module? they would rather jack around, have a very unhappy customer, bill Audi hundreds in labor w/o a fix, rather than order the dreaded replacement part?? yeh, *** that.

The dealers shop gets a flat amount for the repair. They do not bill Audi
for the amount of time it takes. A new module may not fix it. It certainly can be a programming issue. On the other hand 2 weeks seems excessive for an appt since you don't need an RS4 tech to do this

thanks. so how long should it take to determine if
it's a faulty module or not? should it take 9 hours (amount of time they had the car)? hec, i suppose it could given that it took them 4 hours to unlock the disc from the nav unit.

this is very true, dealer dependant
i don't know about a flat fee, dealer needs to accurately bill their work. the time spent on an unresolved warranty claim is time not able to be spent on a paying repair at full markup(labor rates).
