RS4 steering wheel installed - yummy.
After driving a New Zealand RS4 in May, I knew I just had to get one of these wheels. Interestingly, the metal sheen is brighter than that on the gearknob, door handles etc, but looking at pictures on the interweb this seems to be the same with the overseas models also.
Buttons do indeed work after recoding... The S button will save the embarassment of being caught "subtly" reaching across the dash to push it when the better half isn't looking. The +,-,set buttons are more convenient duplicates of the stalk buttons that flip through the menus on the screen between the speedo and tach. The loss of radio and phone buttons isn't the end of the world for me.
Only odd thing is the ESP light stays on in the dash - I may have a low voltage fault to be cleared after pulling the battery - will look for that tomorrow.
I basically got the wheel on and set up the wheel controller (elapsed time 1 hour, half of which was trying to find the appropriate tools which had been randomly distributed around the house, garage, shed and, mysteriously, the neighbor's house by cosmic forces that I don't even pretend to understand) and then decided to go inside to have a few drinks to celebrate. Well just for the hell of it actually given that it is Friday night. Well, actually it's nighttime, so its drinking time. As if I have to justify my alcoholism to you lot anyway.
Cheers!

p.s. Sorry for the pic quality, left my flash at work.
p.p.s. m12 triple square (plus three others in a set) for approx 15$ at pep boys.
p.p.p.s. torx bolts are at about 45 degrees - have a look at your new wheel to see how it and the wiring unclips.
p.p.p.p.s. Who's coming out with a matching CF backlit shift ****?

Illustrated step by step guide from mksap11 on the A4 forum

Why would 'trip computer' buttons be on the wheel (rarely ever used) vs. radio controls? dumb.
How hard would it be to rewire it somewhere in the wheel or harness to 'move' the +/- buttons to control volume?

because the trip computer buttons are also used to control the lap timer in the RS4.
i'm sure that's the main reason they're on the wheel. with the US-spec wheel, your hands have to leave the wheel to click each lap start/finish point.

Man, that looks really, really great.
Some (not me) would say the ESP off by default is a good thing I'm sure you'll figure it out. You probably already know that VAG-COM has lots of steering wheel programming options.
Contrats and cheers!
