Default RS4's suck....j/k....drove my buddys last week in Houston and I have to say

it's a very refined machine...The chassis, engine note, interior and of course exterior are far superior to my B5; of course. You guys have a fantastic car. I think it's apples to oranges comparing a stage 3 B5 to an RS4 in terms of straight line performance, but I was quite impressed w/ the performance of the RS4...The power is so linear, and it pulls really nice - love that high redline, it just screems to the top. Just wanted to compliment you guys on a very nice refined ride. I'm not sure I would dump 70K for it, but would still take one in a heart beat. Anyway, I was thrilled to get a chance to romp on one, and it exceeded my expecations to say the least. Well, not posting this to start a **** storm, just wanted to say congrats to those who purchased one. Enjoy it and hopefully in 2 years or so I can snag one, and then justify to the wife to spend high 40's or so for used rather than 70 or so right now. We'll see...

Default Stage III S4 = S4 + $15K or so in modifications.

Don't take my word for it, though.

They're good for about 400-450 (depends on set-up) or so HP and even more torque.

Quick B5 Fact- Thanks Tgr Clw

Default No...to do it right and have a properly balanced stage3 B5, it is the car +$30,000.....

including labor for install of parts. I know because I've done it and done it right.

Default Sure. I guess $15K...

is on the "cheap"

Chip $1000
Catback $2000
New Turbos/Ic's etc: $10K
Odds and ends brings you to my $15K.

I guess once you add:
Rims/Tires: $3000?
BBK: ???
Suspension: $2500-4000
Downpipes: ?
Etc...etc...

$30K comes quickly.

Default Thanks for the review, but with due respect, what would you "dump" 70K into?..

I can understand the "used one" comments You DO get a nice car with resale value (I think)and warranty (=time to think about it). Any better ideas, 'cuz I'd love to hear about them. (Really!)

I would agree that If I were going to spend 70K on a car, the Rs4 would be the one

Default I think that's a highly-inflated guess for a standard out-of-the-box Stage 3 setup

Chips are usually < $1000 (i have APR with 4 ecms modes, and it was under 900), suspension can be had for closer to $1000, bigger wheels/tires i just bought for ~1400 (B7 RS4 reps)....

but of course there are a LOT of brands, so you could end up spending mucha mula...

Default What I'm talking about is.....

All these B5'ers insisting how their car is "better" than the current RS4. I said PROPERLY BALANCED stage 3, which is FAR from a basic stage 3 set-up. To get it to the level of the current RS4 it is the car plus $30k in mods. And guess what, the B5 new was $42,000. Add $30k to that and ......guess what.......you have the price of a new RS4. Funny how that works.

My B5 S4 had:

APR stage 3 hardware
OCT custom software
Milltek downpipes
Milltek Catback
Forge diverter valves
RS4 oil cooler
RS4 intercoolers
RS4 clutch
Stasis Track Sport suspension
BBS wheels
Brigestone Pole Position tires
Stoptech BBK
AWE drivetarin stabilizer
Reiger mirrors
Reiger Type M rear wing
Euro spec headlights
RS4 piano black interior trim
Defi Boost/Fuel Press/EGT gauges
Custom Floor/Trunk mats

+labor for install. Total cost including car came to $73,000.

This didn't include my aftermarket Audio System.

This elevated the whole car to a higher level, keeping all the performance components in balance.
