S-Mode (The definitive answer to what that button does.)

Nice writeup! On other cars I have, the flaps are vacuum controlled...
... adn to open them up, I just disconnected the vacuum lines. Is this same approach work on the RS4?

Very cool ! Hmm.. the flaps close after the car starts moving in S mode??
So the only way to get max sound is to punch it above the 'keep open' threshold when accelerating?

AH HA! PROOF that sport mode sux
It's exactly what I thought: Some have posted that Sport mode makes it easier to launch, easier to shift, easier to rev-match, blah blah blah. Just look at the plot. Sport mode DECREASES your control of the throttle by DECREASING your control of torgue over a narrower range of throttle position. For example, with sport on, throttle positions between 35% and 80% all result in engine torque of about 95%. What that means is that throttles between 35% and 95% are all the same - numb!
With sport OFF, throttle positions between 35% and 80% result in a useable torque range of between 70% and 95%. This is the definition of CONTROL - the exact opposite of sport mode.
This is why I've used Sport Mode maybe 5 miles in 10,000. Just remove and plug the vacuum lines to your exhaust flaps and you can have it all.
Sport mode is little more than a marketing gimmick no different than BMW.
