Default Saved by the K40 today. Warning, the following is off topic and may be long and boring to some......

<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/108562/two_blue_lights.jpg"></center><p>Quick turn off a main street in 3rd at about 40+ and as I finish the turn the front radar alarm goes nuts for a few seconds and then shuts off. I'm looking down the street and No Cops but I dropped into 2nd just in case and the car slows to about 30. Now I start to see someone in black about three hundred yards down walking into the street. O ****, so I back off and Idle down to 20 and I'm getting closer, the front warning light and radar warning starts going nuts again. Yup it's a cop and he points for me to pull over. Now I'm pissed and thinking I am about to get my first ticket in the RS. So he walks over real slow looking the car over with an S eating grin on his face. I turn down a great ZZ TOP song to hear the old "do you know the speed limit on this street"? Yes, it's 20. So why were you going 32? (So I'm thinking not so bad I was going 40+ when the alarm first went off). I guess as I came off the other street I was still slowing down. No you saw me and that's why you slowed down. I thought you were some random guy walking across the street. So he just sits there and looks the dash and inside of the car over really good, I guess he was looking for a radar detector. He missed the two small blue lights under the speed-o. He is standing there with the radar gun in one hand and an open ticket book in the other. I see drivers license and registration on his lips but I hear SLOW DOWN and you can go. What? Did I hear that wrong, Cha Ching mark down a near miss for the stealthy K40 Calibre!

Default Valentine would have picked him up long before the turn.......

Are my thoughts...However, I do like the K40 stealth factor, and the blue tooth capability....why did you choose this over say Valentine and an LPP. Clearly the K40 is more expensive........

Default PS..I asked about K40 on radardetector.net and was banned

I think it is because the radar guys bashed the K40. But I do not know. I will be purchasing some form of Lidar protection, and I liked the blue tooth capabilities of the K40. However, I am having a hard time frinding some unbiased tests of their products

Default I dunno, I have the Escort 8500 X50 which I believe is rated better than the Valentine by a lot

and therefore even better than the K40.

It came highly recommended by a fellow RS4-guy from this forum.

I have never been busted since I've had it. That said it picks up tons of X band bullsh1t from stores and their safe alarms. Plus K band which is 95% not a cop either.

So I basically only look for Ka band.

What band was he using?

Anyway, I get warnings sometimes a mile in advance, I suggest you get the Escort, and who gives a rats *** if they see it, its legal. And with the Escort, you'll have so much warning you can hide it anyway.

Default The turn was a 90 and there is a building blocking its view, I am impressed that........

the Valentine can pick up through concrete and steel.I trust my dealer and they had many installs on P-cars and the owners raved about the units. I do like the K40 stealth factor, voice and the blue tooth. I read all the reviews and they sound like a compilation of Bull ****. If money was a consideration when picking the K40 wouldn't drive an RS4 either. ;-)<ul><li><a href="http://k40.com/images/pdf/reviews/LE_CalibreReview.pdf">http://k40.com/images/pdf/reviews/LE_CalibreReview.pdf</a</li></ul>

Default Latest GOL has Valentine #1, Beltronics #2, and Escort #3.....LPP awesome..

Ben,
I too have the x50. In terms of Roy...his unbiased tesing bashed the SHI# out of the Calibre, basically gave it the same capability as a cobra....crap. THere was smoe form of lawsuit, and you can not even mention the word K40 or Calibre on his web site now...It is too bad, because some of those guys do some great testing, and I would love to see if the calibre really is that bad..it's bluetooth capability is something the others need to catch up on...check out the links below

http://www.radardetector.net/Nov-4%2C-2006---Vancouver-Jammer-Test-Result-%28Part-1%29-18613t.php

on the above link..THE LPP kicks some major A$$..see the videos..even better than lidatek, by a lot.......

http://www.guysoflidar.com/radar-detector-test-fall-2006/radar-detector-test.html

above is a great radar detector test review...

I love the x50, and it has saved me often. After seeing the above videos, my LPP order goes in Monday...
