Saw an RS4 cab at local dealer today. Not bad but sure ain't worth $86k IMO.

That's crazy money. Salesman said it was the first one to the U.S. Not sure it's true or not but that's what he told me.

That's EXACTLY what I thought it was from a distance. Roundish and bland tail lights.
Then I noticed the matte aluminum type detailing around the edges and thought to myself that wasn't a standard S4 cab. 86 grand is a buttload of money and I think I'd be looking at many other cars before that one. What's this thing weigh? It must really be a porker if the coupe is already.

I hear ya, but believe me, it's one of those cars you have to experience.
I never thought too much about the S4 cab until I drove one....having that V8 exhaust right behind you with the top down is driving nirvana (ESPECIALLY where you live, where the top can be down pretty much all the time). I haven't driven a RS4 cab yet, but I'm sure that experience is taken up a notch from the S4 cab.

There's no doubting the fun factor but for this kind of $$?
I'd probably hit a Boxster S with the newer engine. Now that would probably sound pretty good too with the mid-engine placement. Not to mention much less money and ahem...better handling.

yeah, and no back seat and no quattro.
to get those things, you'd need a C4S cab, which is....a lot more $$$.
it is a lot of money, but for $13k more than the RS4 sedan....if I still lived in SoCal (or NorCal even), I'd probably get one. There really isn't anything else out there right now that compares...at least until we see a M3 cab, which is a possibility.

Quattro not a requirement for me (in Socal) and I like RWD.
But yeah I see your point. I do like a mid-engine placement however and if you like the sound of the engine, there's no better place IMO. Even rolling down the windows in my stock Cayman S is music to the ears.
