I deconstruct this on these counts:
They said:
When Audi engineers set out to build a competitor to BMW's M3 sport sedan, they pretty much obliterated their target, too. ... Instead, the RS4 overshoots the mark by so much, it lands somewhere closer to the mighty BMW M5.
I say:
This obliteration is largely on the basis of power-- equalize the power and THEN let's talk "obliteration".
They say:
Consider the engineering sleight of hand it took to make a front-engine sedan that weighs nearly 2 tons handle with such enviable balance. The heavily modified all-wheel-drive system is, of course, an important factor in its mastery of the open road. But there's more: a Torsen center differential has replaced the standard viscous coupling; it ordinarily sends 60 percent of the torque to the rear wheels, and 40 percent to the front. But if the wheels slip, up to 100 percent of the torque can be sent to either axle.
I say:
So how come I got stuck in my driveway in our first of two blizzards this month ? I found myself, having plowed this very same driveway with this car twice earlier that day, stuck in the snow with ONE wheel spinning out of all four. Quattro was out to lunch.
What's up with that ?
They say:
An "S" button is for track day; it turns the marginally compliant suspension to concrete. Enthusiasts will appreciate that the stability control can be turned off for maximum wheelspin (and occupant terror).
I say:
What ?!
Have we been missing this behavior of the Sport button all this time ? Sport button and DRC linked somehow ?
Do tell more !
They Say:
But a word of caution: If you're a fan of the A4 , don't test an RS4 -- it will only upset you. This is an A4 done right, and it will ensure that you never fully enjoy an A4 again -- the RS4 is superior in every way.
I say:
Bzzzzt, wrong ! The A4 can accept a winter wheel in 17", which is THE KEY to fitting adequate SNOW tires.
Because of this the A4 handles in the snow so much better than the-best-you-can-shoe-your-RS4-with that you simply cannot say "in every way".
Wait, it's almost January, and Nokian has promised a studdable 18" tire for the US DOT for January 2007...
Hold that thought...
