Default Sloppy dealership service - spilled oil on engine

Went into an unnamed, ahem, LA Audi dealership for my 5k and the dealership scuffed my rocker panels (porters with their damn black shoes) and the techs spilled oil onto the engine when they were filling it. I was able to get most of it off with Q-tips and visibly I can't see any more on the engine, but I just got to work and still smell burning oil. It's been three weeks since the service. Does oil really take that long to burn off?

Default Well it shouldn't but depening on how many miles you drove in those 3 weeks...

it just depends.

If you car is a daily driver I would say it should have burned off by now.

To clean the engine off (while cold) I would spray it down with simple green wait 5 minutes or so and then and mist/wash off with a hose.

Dry off as much water with a rag and then start her up and let the engine dry the rest.

Make sure to give them a ding on the phone survey.

I had accused my dealer of oiling up my engine as well on the A4 2.0T and come to find out the crank case vent system failed causing oil to blow by the filler cap. Egg on face :-(

I haven't heard of any problems with this system on the the 4.2 so get'em

400 mi driven. I smell it when I first exit the car. Lift hood, sniff around, no oil smell. Weird.

Thanks for this tip - it worked like a charm. Now all I smell is hot, expensive metal.
