Default Snow chains

It has been snowing for over a week in Seattle. I don't have winter setup for my car so it has been sitting in the garage all this time. Most of the snow was cleared off today, so I decided to the RS4 out and got stuck right outside my driveway. I knew it wasn't a great idea.

I am not going to get a winter setup this year so I was wondering if using snow chains is possible or is it a terrible idea.

Default How about Spikes Spiders? No worries about suspension clearance around the back of

Not ideal for really gnarly conditions, but pretty decent and quick and easy to install.

http://www.spikes-spiders.com/</a

Default Didn't know about these

Do they work with stock wheels?

The website just shows people using a single one. Is that typical or do people use more than one?

For awd vehicles, you install them on the front. Contact them to double check fitment

Default A very similar option is the Thule K-Summit

Sorry, I don't have a link handy, but just google it & you will find a couple of sources in the US. They are a little less expensive, but still around $400. Thule's are Italian made vs. Swiss for the Spikes-Spiders.

Default I would say it is not worth it.

summer tires get too hard and do not work in cold temps - it's not just the tread pattern.

Default Here is an alternative to full blown winter tires for next year

Nokian WRG2 and WRs. More then do the business in snow.

http://www.nokiantires.com/tyre?id=11899&group=1.02&name=Nokian%20WRG 2</a

Default I'm out in Seattle too, would definitely have two sets of tires if you plan to drive in the snow.

I live on a big hill and tried to take the scoobie down with summer tires on...not so much fun, and resulted in all kinds of ungraceful driving. Now that I have my winter tires (Hankook), it's no problem going up and down steep grades. The Audi is staying parked for a few more days.
