So what are 2008 RS4s selling for these days?
I count 200+ untitled brand new 2008 RS4 sedans (not counting cabs)on Autotrader. Dealers surely must be discounting (?) The market is also flooded with 2007 lightly used cars. I am wondering whether or not this is a great time to buy an RS4 with the excess supply, fuel prices scaring many off, etc.

This is pretty much how all car sales are right now...
Some people have been able to get almost 10k off a new RS4 purchase, so that'll take it into the mid 60s before gas guzzler, tax, title and license. However this seems pretty rare as Edmunds' nationwide TMV on the RS4 is still hovering around full sticker price, and that's based on transaction data straight from dealerships.
Many of the dealers don't seem to want to deal on these cars because many of them paid just under invoice to get them - so basically $66k on up. Audi doesn't have a holdback model, at least that I know of, so these dealers are locked in to sell these at the highest price they can with no kick-back from Audi corporate.
BMW's in a similar situation which is why they just announced a 0.9% for 60 months using BMWFS, including M-cars. It's bad out there, pretty much across the board with the exception of small car sales.

Re: So what are 2008 RS4s selling for these days?
Audi USA has 2.9%. I don't think the person in the market is scared off by fuel prices, I know I wasn't. I think it is more of a psychological thing. Lets see how it breaks down, drive 13000 miles a year at 13MPG is 1000 gallons per year used. Gas at 4.50 a gallon= 4500 dollars a year. Last year gas 3.25 a gallon= 3250 dollars a year a 1250 dollar increase. I don't think that is enough to scare potential buyers off a 73000+ gas guzzler. Point is dealers know this. Good luck let us know how you make out.

I think you're underestimating the sticker shock at the pump
Granted, the average guy who plops down $70k plus for a car might not care much, but I can tell you that having watched my S4 fill-ups go from circa $30 dollars when I bought the car to probably $60 plus when I return from war has certainly given me pause. Prior to my deployment I had been considering a used RS4 or S6. If gas prices continue to trend upwards, inevitably I'll have to rethink my options. Dealers are also feeling the pinch, though perhaps not as much in the luxury car segment. The SUV manufacturers certainly have, however, with quite a few big names slashing production of large vehicles as a result of the impact of gas prices on the market.

Yep - dealers are marking cars down by 10K off MSRP to move them. There are MANY....
RS4s on the lots just sitting and if they mark these cars down 10k then expect your resell to be far far less. No sugar coating here.

Yes, but the shock is only shock and doesn't really have anything to do with......
the real amount of extra money spent annually on gas. As pointed out, most people are spending about $1000-2000 more per year for gas. Consider that the average demographic for the RS4 owner is a male in their 40's, married, with an annual income of $200-250k and the extra money isn't really a financial strain. It's more just the notion that prices have gone up over 33% in one year. If prices stabalize out soon, we will all be buying big-*** SUV's again.

Who out there is getting 10K off MSRP? If this were the NORM you have to remember there are about 2500 08 RS4 and I would think most are sold. So even if the market got flooded with RS4 how many are we talking about. My point is people are acting like the sky is falling in RE the price of gas. If anything the Auto Makers like Chrystler are exploiting the gas fears with a 2.99 incentive on gas the first 3 years. Anyone ever break down those numbers? What do they pay in Europe per litre? Try buying an RS4 there.
