impressed? excited? can't wait to trade-in their RS4 for one next year? underwhelmed? disappointed? indifferent? just don't give a ****?

not really interested in the car but still very disappointed...
not sure if that puts me in the category of "just don't give a ****" or not?
Was never a fan of the design of the R8 and the whole concept of an Audi 'supercar' but deep down, I was at least hoping Audi would spare no expense and actually create a flagship product that not only stands on top of their entire model lineup as the performance leader, but also stand out in its class as the new kid on the block that's ready to kick *** and take names. While putting the almost same 4.2L powerplant from the RS4 into a better-balanced mid-engine chassis that is nearly 500 lbs lighter sounds like a winning formula, I think Audi could have done a lot better considering this is their first entry into this performance category. A V10 would've been nice. Also, the availability of DSG at launch would've been more appropriate if this were to truly showcase 'vorsprung durch tecknik'. And what's the deal with a viscous coupling differential for the quattro system? Weight savings? Weak sauce? I think the latter seems more the case.
Well, it's a good thing I was an R8 hater from the get go, or else this really would've been a huge let-down for me. As an Audi fan however, I still hoped Audi would not fvck around with the R8's release whether I was a fan of the car or not.... oh well. Another much-anticipated but hugely disappointing Audi release takes a bow.
Honestly, the less powerful 997 Carrera 4S or 997 Targa 4S is more appealing at this point when it comes to AWD sportscars. If the R8 were to chime in at $110k nicely equipped, even a 997 Turbo makes a good alternative for not much more dough. But now that I've mentioned the P-word, give me a 997 GT3 in carrara white please.

totally different car. may appeal to same audience, but not as a replacement...
...only for those RS4 owners who also want a 2-seater exotic.
and for me, it would have to wait until the V10 or snails or both to merit a track-worthy upgrade over the RS4, in terms of performance.
i really don't understand the V8 offering. the audi S/RS market is already diluted with all these offerings. the S8 and RS4 stand out as far enough apart to appeal the most. S6 is an orphan.
altho it would suck for V10 buyers, i think they shoulda done a kickass $150K V10 ultimo version first. then use the appeal of that and its status to sell V8s later if they must.
afraid the V8 won't quite wooh the right crowd.

My guess is that they are waiting for the longitudinal DSG from Borg Warner for the V10.
I'm willing to bet that it WILL come as a V10 DSG in a year or 2.
