Spacers and wheel hop
Okay, so some people including myself have experienced wheel hop on hard turning with spacers. I am happy to report that it is NOT due to the spacers.
I installed my 10mm MTM spacers about 5 weeks ago. Had no issues whatsoever. Over the past 10 days or so, I have been getting this wheel hop/chatter on hard turns from a standstill. Someone else also reported wheel hop with spacers.
I had a theory that the wheel hop may have another cause. I still had my Pirelli P Zero summer tires on the car and the temps here in western MA were getting into the 20's and even the upper teens. So yesterday, I switched to my Dunlop Winter Sports. Wheel hop gone. Must have been something about the hard summer compound and the very cold outside temps for which the tires were just not designed. My Pirellis were also worn to about 30-40% and when I removed the tires from the car, I noticed that the tread really was looking beat up.
Anyway, another thing I noticed was how incredibly noisy the Pirellis had become at this amount of treadwear. It was really roaring loud. I didn't appreciate how loud it had gotten until I put on the Dunlops (which aren't nearly so worn). I can actually enjoy the sound of my Milltek again!!!
Come spring, I'll be changing my tires even though from a purely wear standpoint I could probably get another summer out of them. Just too damn loud. Not sure yet what I'll go with.
