spare tire for rs4

Is anyone aware of a temporary type spare tire that will fit either the front or rear wheels of RS4? I am considering purchasing an RS4 but troubled by lack of spare. I was able to buy an Audi TT temporary spare for my R32. Only fits rear wheel, but a lifesaver in a place with no cell phone service.

luckily I damaged one of my tires so Im using that as a spare. Got it repaired for 150 bucks...

and decided to just keep it handy and put it in the trunk on long trips or places I know I might need one.

Someone posted a picture of a UK RS4 with a temporary spare. I just bought another stock 19"

wheel and tire and keep it strapped down in the trunk with a jack and torque wrench, as I am not comfortable with the stock system, the name of which I forget, but is explained in the manual. It consists of stuff that you are supposed to spray into the deflated tire anbd an air compressor intended to reinflate it. I figured that another 55 or 60 lbs in the trunk would not hurt me, since I do not race on the streets anyway.

The link to the photo no longer works but this may help...

There was a salvage RS4 in the UK that was fitted with a doughnut spare. The spare appeared to clear the front brakes, but otherwise, details were lacking.

The problem with a full size spare is that it will not fit into the spare well in the trunk because that is were the battery is located and the tire/wheel are too large.

Some owners have decided to buy a full size spare, but the problem with that it that it takes up a lot of space in the trunk. A smaller width spare on a 17" or 18" wheel might be a good option but this would require you to place the spare on the rear axle only - if you had a front tire failure, a full size rear tire would have to go up front and the spare would replace the tire moved to the front.

With a dry-cell battery, your mini-spare would probably fit in the spare tire well. AFAIK, nobody here has put together what was just described.

bought extra tire + rim and followed Parikh1234 suggestion to take

it on long trips only, the only safe way to do it.

Re: spare tire for rs4

Thanks for the feedback. I did a little checking and the spare from the R32 has potential. Wheel is an 18" steel wheel. Anyone know how much clearance is needed for rear brakes.

I am not sure about the bolt pattern though. As I recall, VW has tighter pattern than A4/S4/RS4 wheel

Anyone know about this?

Inflatable spare tire from an RS6 or allroad? The allroad's tire height is probably too tall though.

It's a good idea, the RS6 tires were the same size.

12.8" rotors in rear vs 14.4" up front... What about a Phaeton or Bentley wheel maybe?

I just keep an extra pZero under the cargo net so I'll have one in stock when they don't. I plan to get a full spare w/tools for those long trips.

Hey thanks, The dealer's parts guy is looking into it. Thinks it might work. Very expensive, but a solution.
