Default Sport Button sux

About 6500 miles of "testing":

First 3000 miles: usually SPORT OFF with muffler flaps mechanically disabled ("golf tee mod").

Next 2000 miles: muffler flaps reconnected, usually SPORT ON when started.

Most recent 1500 miles: SPORT OFF with muffler flaps mechanically disabled ("golf tee mod").

Conclusion: The car is far easier to coordinate clutch/shifting/rev matching with SPORT OFF. It's a very smooth-shifting manual. Other potential benefits of SPORT OFF is reduced fuel-dilution due to reduced accelerator pump enrichment mapping and increased fuel mileage. Anybody else notice this?

Default Good job making sure the "KAR Laboratories, Inc." text was properly positioned for the picture. ;-)

Have you done a UOA to see if SPORT OFF mode really reduces fuel dilution? Even then, it may be hard to draw any conclusions unless the same duty cycle was used in both modes.

I agree the car is easier to drive smoothly with SPORT OFF.

Default For me, coordination (clutch/shifting/rev matching) is actually smoother with "S" activated

Perhaps it has something to do with the Milltek CBs.

Default Right - I wish I hadn't done that!

The lab has nothing to do with automotive. But the tee was free and I had plenty in my golf bag...

Default Rev matching with a lightweight flywheel, race clutch, and sport mode on is ridiculous...

the slightest throttle prod sends the revs into orbit.

Sure sounds cool though.

Default Also agree and my exhaust is stock, although I have not been so scientific in

my analysis. I just enjoy driving with the sport button on. BTW, I did notice that it is quite easy to downshift from 2nd to 1st at about 20-25 mph, which I did recently when coming to a stop at the end of a ramp. This was the subject of a post a week or two ago. Perhaps this is obvious, but until the engine reaches operating temperature, I do not expect it or the transmission to perform optimally.

Default the key is speed shifting... don't lift the throttle when upshifting

or the revs drop too quickly. I had to get used to this too.
