stick vs smg

This could start a whole new discussion topic...
I suspect there could be some pressure to go with a DSG type in the next RS4. But, I can't see them offering 2 transmissions in such a limited production model. Better hope it remains a manual.

dual clutch seems to be the hottest trend in top performance models (M3, evo X, GTR, amg SL63)...
so very good chance the next RS4 or RS5 will have a similar automated tranny option in order to be competitive.
I'm surprised it's taking VAG so long to put it in a performance model since they've had it in other mass market cars before anyone else.

I'm GLAD Audi hasn't put it in their RS series, at least. BTW, The EVO X manual is just coming after the AT...first months of production were with the AT.

I'll stick with the stick....
My experience with the SMG in 2005 M3 was lukewarm. We had both SMG and 6 spd in almost identical M's, I like the Audi manual tranny much better than either choice from BMW.

DSG may be faster, but 3 pedals offer more driver interaction.
Sadly not enough people know how to drive a stick (well), so the allure of tying a semi-auto in to the racing aspect is a way to allow those sucky stick drives to chose an auto and retain their self esteem;-)

http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/News/articleId=129467</a
