Test drove a 335i and new TT yesterday
My wife is thinking about getting a new car so we test drove a new 335i yesterday. For all those future e92 M3 owners (and RS4 owners) who are worried about the 335i tuners guys being faster, etc., in a less expensive car - don't be. Even if it was faster than a new Z06 I still wouldn't want it. In my wife's own words, the car is uninspired. To me, I felt like I was driving a fast Camry. When pushed, the chassis and suspension deliver and the car does have good power, but it's otherwise just plain boring. As a person who has traditionally loved BMWs, I was pretty disappointed. I'm sure the new M3 will be great and in my mind the new M3 vs. chipped and tuned 335i debate is dead.
We also test drove a new Audi TT 3.2L Quattro. What a great car!! Every aspect of the car's design both inside and out are well thought out. Just sitting in the car, you feel like you're part of it. The seats are very sporty and supportive. The dash layout is such that you feel like you're sitting in a cockpit. Everything feels just right and - just keeping it real -- I was a little disappointed getting back into my RS4 from the standpoint of interior design and ergonomics.
Driving the car was also great fun. Not as much as the RS4 but much, much more fun than the 335i. The 3.2L has good power and they've done a nice job tuning the exhaust such that it's reminiscent of Porsche's flat 6 boxer motor. Our only issue with the TT is that well equipped w/ the 3.2L motor (which is how we would want it) it's $52k which - as great as the car is - seems a bit expensive.

I prefer the coupe, FWIW.
The TT could have been a great car from the factory. For all the racing heritage it touts, Audi hampered the only model it referred to as a sports car (until the R8 appeared, obviously). The mods I've done to my TT (including springs, shocks, rear swaybar, chip, exhaust, FMIC, brakes...) bring it to the level at which I think it should have left Gyor. It's quite an enjoyable car. The new TT supposedly fixes many of the dynamics issues, but charging S4 prices for a 250-hp car is silly. I'm interested to see the rumored hi-po versions, and how the price will be adjusted.

Oh, it's a huge improvement over the original, I agree...
but the price is much too rich for what that car offers, IMO. Wait until close to $50k S3's show up. That will be laughable.

i have an S4. the TT 3.2 should be quicker in the twisties
i already raced a mkI 3.2 that lost me when the road got really tight, so i would expect the new car to be much quicker.
