Those that moved from a STIII B5 S4 to an B7 RS4-questions
Why did you make the change?
What were your initial impressions?
How do you feel about the RS4 now vs when you first switched?
Love my B5, but reality is I need a more reliable & more comfortable car (for the kids). Just dont have the time for the back and forth to repair shops that any car w/ 100k miles requires.
I am deathly afraid that the RS4 is going to feel overly refined, like a BMW 535 compared to the B5. Im not concerned which car is faster, both are plenty fast. I'm more concerned about how involved you feel driving the car, as driving any BMW, it feels like (to me) the car drives you, they are capable cars, they just put me to sleep.
Any impressions would help before I go for a test drive.

It's a very exiting engine. Handles amazing, its very involved and loves to be pushed to the limit.
I think its a great car, probably the best car i have ever driven or have been driven in. The way i think of the RS4 is all the capabilities of a Gallardo but with 4 doors.

Understand that the costs of maintance on this car will be more
due to the exclusive nature
eamil Josh (DocWyte) on the RM forum as he had a stage III and has driven a RS several times.
And the shocks and brake components need to be replaced. (Scroll down)

8 year old out of warranty turbo charged car vs n/a car under warranty?
How so? Ive read about the DRC issues (warranty), what issues with brakes? Havent seen anything the last few weeks Ive peeked at this board.
The cost to maintain the B5 has become insane recently, even discounting the cost of new turbos & clutch last year.

DRCs from what I have read are only covered for the first year.
Brakes seem to last only 10-20K depending on the driving style.
You can do a search here on brakes - go back about four plus pages<ul><li><a href="https://forums.audiworld.com/rs4b7/msgs/91324.phtml">Link</a></li></ul>

I completely understand your concern about it being overly refinded but I would jump on it....
that refinement is what made me jump ship from the B6 S4 back to the B5 but the RS4 does not fall into that category, completely different league. Every minute I've spent in and around the RS4 has been pretty exhilarating, even just listening to it and hearing it pull away. They are very fast in real world situations and a blast to both drive and be driven in. As a daily driver, I wouldn't hesitate for a second, go for it. hth
