Default Time for the spring clean up with some new Motul products before the torture begins...

So as usual before the tracking season starts, I get the car ready by making sure the cars components are ready. So today I went to buy some Motul products and found out about one new product and one that wasn't really known about or hard to get in North America. The new product is an even better racing brake fluid, the RBF660 (see specs). I'll be getting it sometime next week because as we speak it is still in the container from Europe clearing Canadian Customs. The second product that I will be trying is the Gear FF Competition 75W140 tranny/diff oil. Presently I'm using Motul's Gear 300 in both the tranny/TorSen and in the rear diff. However, I will try the Gear FF Competition in the rear diff only because of my LSD. This gear lub isn't cheap. It sells for $58 CAD per litre and I will need two for the rear diff.

First product to be used will be the Fuel System Clean.

Prior to changing the engine oil I will use this, their Engine Clean.

Speaking of oil change, I'll be switching to Motul's double ester 300V in a 5W40 grade.

Next week I will flush the rear diff of the Gear 300 and replenish with the GEAR ff Competition 75W140 fluid.

Finally when time comes prior to my first big track event the RBF600 will be flushed and the RBF660 will be used instead.

Did not know that RBF660 was out, neither did I know about Gear FF. I am still using last years stuff. Thanks for the info.

Default Jet, I'm wondering why you think you need an engine cleaner?

If I recall, you're using Motul oils which are ester-based. These alone have incredible cleaning properties. Unless cleaning is mandated by sludge or varnish buildup, as evidenced either by what you see when draining the oil or when you pull the valve covers, I'd forgo the engine cleaner. More than likely that stuff contains quite a bit of solvent, in order to clean sludges and varnish. But, it will also dissolve soft metals in bearings like lead and copper. If you have sludge and varnish buildup, then that may be a good trade off. But if not, you may be unnecessarily putting additional wear on your bearings.

I have no personal knowledge of the Motul fuel injector cleaner. Could be good. Could be not so good. Dave seems to think that anything that comes from a well-known company has to be good, but that is not necessarily the case. If that cleaner uses high doses of solvents, it may also soften the soft metals in the valve guides.

If you ever decide to do oil analysis, you will actually be able to discern whether or not either of those additives have a bad impact on the motor, rather than shooting in the dark.

Default Jet, Why RBF 660 over RBF 600?

I notice that 660 has a slightly higher dry boiling point, but that the wet boiling point is actually lower. Is there a specific reason you went with 660?

Just to try it! I have been happy with the 600 and there is no real justification to jump ship on it

Default BTW, YGM. I like to clean my injectors and my engine once a year, usually before I start ...

Tracking the car and switch the oil over to Motul's super expensive V300 competition oils. Taking those two steps makes me feel better and it could all be physiological but I see no harm in doing it. I only do it once a year and not every other tank full (IIRC) of gas like Motul says you can do it which I think is overkill. I just see it as buying additional insurance. Maybe I'm wrong.

Speaking of oil analysis, do you think if I send them an oil sample after the "Engine Clean" is used it will corrupt the test sample?

What I might do is to send him and oil sample after I start using the 300V.
